Anicka Yi in another project...

22/08/22 - We have already seen Anicka Yi, Seoul-born artist, at the Tate Modern de Londres and we were left in awe. Today we will post about her exhibition at the Pirelli Hangar Bicocca in Milano.

The exhibition was entitled Metaspore and it consisted of evoking the contamination process, as well as the contaminant, that works on display caused in the environment. Other installations were the result result of Yi's research on the coexistence of the microbial world (such as the proliferation of bacteria) with inanimate objects, like computers. Bacterial cultures (with surprising colors) obtained in work spaces (offices) were also presented as a manifestation of ecosystems in which microorganisms interact with industrial elements.

Releasing The Human From The Human, by Anicka Yi (2019) - detail
Alga kelp, Aquazol, glycerin, crepeline, acrylic, LED, animatronic insect

In Le Pain Symbiotique, Yi focuses on the idea of symbiosis (the coexistence of organisms of different species) and, incorporating culinary techniques such as fermentation, explains the importance of those organisms invisible to our eyes. The whole structure looks like a giant intestine in which millions of bacteria interact for a healthy life. Finally, several spheres hang from the ceiling, like Japanese lanterns, and a fly trapped inside the structure crazily flies around them (it's. in fact, a technologically created insect that emulates its flight in a circle).

We leave the exhibition pondering on the importance of the coexistence between the different species, represented with poetry, transparency, immateriality and expiration.
