Ugo Rondinone in Venice...
9:00 a.m.06/13/22 - With a composition that pivots between the human condition and a meditation on nature, Ugo Rondinone (Switzerland, 1964) expresses himself through hanging sculptures that represent human beings in blue. Just like the angels in Tintoretto's paintings, these seven sculptures seem to dance above our heads. The exhibition is called Burn shine fly and it takes place in the Scuola Grande di Giovanni Evangelista, a space outside the tourist circuit of Venice and quite difficult to find.
In addition to the sculptural group that hangs from the ceiling of the Church, another sculpture in the form of a golden circle that pretends to be a sun was placed at the entrance. It measures just over 5 meters high and, according to the artist, seeks to celebrate life. The sign reads that this entire project, which enhances the architecture of the Church that houses it, was influenced from a video by the artist in which 18 dancers move around a campfire in the desert from sunset to sunrise. These bodies function as connecting threads between the fire and the sun, giving rise to a new cycle of life.
