Damien Hirst?

03/21/22 - Like every day, filmmaker Roman Polanski goes to have his favorite drink at Charlie's, a traditional cafeteria in Gstaad. Someone tells him that an art gallery has opened right in front of him and that in its first exhibition a portrait of his tragically deceased wife is on display: Sharon Tate. It is not the only portrait, there are several, all of legendary figures from art, politics and pop culture.

Myths, Legends and Monsters is the name of Gagosian's inaugural exhibition in this beautiful city. The external space matches the architecture of the place. Inside, the white cube is so white that it reproduces the effect of flat light typical of snowy mountainous geographies, where it is impossible to determine where the wall ends and the floor begins. But the most surprising thing is that in this whiteness there are only monochrome paintings by Damien Hirst. The artist leaves us speechless with this hyperralist exhibition, since it is the first time that we see him so far away from the dots and the sharks.

Hirst explained that he has been producing this series for the past 15 years, choosing the characters and events from photographs published in newspapers and magazines. This selection aims, according to the artist, to show us humanity in all its facets, from an artist to an explosion.

Returning to the technique used, we must mention that the mimicry between the published photo tand what is represented is such that it is impossible to take your eyes off it. A standing ovation for this unknown ability of Hirst to represent with such detailed accuracy an image that was captured in an instant by a camera.

PS: We still don't know if Polanski visited the show.
