03/18/22 - A stone from St. Moritz was moved to another Swiss city, Gstaad, and displayed in front of an aluminum structure of the same shape and size as the first. Between these two objects, a two-sided mirror was placed to reflect each of them, inviting the visitor to be part of the installation, portraying himself next to the stone or its metal double. The work belongs to Alicja Kwade (Poland, 1979), who repeated the same procedure in St. Moritz carrying a stone from Gstaad. As a result, not only are the stones facing each other doubles, but also the same work is repeated in another space. This monumental open-air sculpture has the formidable advantage of a white floor (the winter season creates a base of almost permanent snow) and if the day dawns sunny, the reflection of light causes various sparkles between the mirrors and the object of aluminum. It truly deserves to move around looking towards the mirror: in this journey, the game (always present in art) between seeing the stone and, when walking, seeing the reflected object is something like playing hide and seek...
