The video of the cherry...

The tromped l'oeil was a quite common deceit in Art History in the time when artists went by the traditional rules. If the artist was skillful enough, he could achieve a sense of immersion inside the canvas, por example, into a landscape, thanks to the effective use of perspective. Modernity however, moved away of those traditional concepts, and Contemporary Art followed..
Today, artists like Leando Erlich or Ramiro Quesada Pons (Argentina, 1987) are rediscovering those tricks. Quesada Pons, for example, produces them through digital imaging. In 2015, he made a video in which a pencil, with no apparent human guidance, painted a cherry in white. The video, excellently done, only shows the formal elementos (one in movement, the other static), inviting us to simply  “contemplate”. The artwork, which belongs to the series Delirios de Grandeza, can be seen today at the exhibition Sakura, at Galería Miranda Bosch.
