28/11/19 - Gaby Grobo is an Argentina artist passionate about painting and the countryside. For those who have never lived out of the city, her artworks allow us to get to know the land, the trees and the roots of the countryside with outmost detail.

A few weeks ago she presented the exhibition Nuevos Horizontes at the Centro Cultural Borges and we got to know her world, not only through our eyes, but also through our noses, since all the floor was covered with alfalfa, and its smell invaded all the galleries and placed the artworks in context.

The landscape is the focus of the exhibition and it shifts from canvas to canvas: red strokes in the horizon, sometimes orange or white, are the backdrop for the main figure: the tree. Her paintings remind us of Prilidiano Pueyrredón, with his ombú and olive trees, and also of Fernando Fader and his countryside scenes of the Pampas. Sometimes Grobo lets us see the roots of those trees, as if the soil had disappeared. In other paintings, the tree appears proudly as the main figure.

The exhibition also displayed a series of sculptures made with found objects related to the working of the land. Unused pieces of machinery and tools, recovered and painted with bright colors, became part of a series of assemblies. We perceive in them the passing of time, the rains and  the bright sun, giving us a sense of what's life at the countryside.

Gaby Grobo is an example of dedication and her knowledge of rural life offers us an immersive experience about Argentina's richness.
