The MALBA is presenting a special work by Pablo La Padula as part of the exhibition "C-31 Lo Contrario de la Magia". The exhibition seeks to show the relationship between art and science in contemporary culture, although La Padula's work looks like the working table of a 19th century botanist.

Diverse materials, different measures.
It is, in fact, a work of detail and experimentation, which shows the extreme patience with which the artist gathered the materials in a meticulous study. It is as detailed as the drawings of insects done by  Luis Benedit in the 70s.

It seems so different to what we see today, where promptness always prevails. In this case, detailing is key. Hundreds of specimens are gathered in that pristine working table. Everything is minuscule, but observation is helped with excellent lighting.

An artist can express himself with details, as La Padula, or need vast spaces to demonstrate his message... Thus is the case of Richard Deacon.
Lock 1990, by Richard Deacon
Tate Britain
This sculptor, born in Wales in 1949, presented at Tate Britain an exhibition in which each work occupied a space of more than 5 sq-meters.

Though each piece is done in modules at Deacon's study,  they are assembled later in the museum to create large-scale works.
Fold 2012 (Manton Foyer), by Richard Deacon
The materiales are very different. In the case of Fold, a gigantic series of towers, the artist used ceramic. The sculpture weights approximately 12 tons and measures more than 5 mts wide x 3 mts tall. Deacon is interested in exploring the bond between components and the space surrounding them.
Two artists, through details or large-scale installations, achieve the aim of expressing their art.
