The flower on the face...
4:10 p.m.15/04/25 - Anyone who passes by the Gagosian gallery in Gstaad cannot resist going in to see, up close, Elizabeth Taylor half-covered by a carnation.
Materials: aluminium panel, based-screen printing paint / Measures: 205.3 x 163.5
Despite the flower, recognizing the English celebrity is not difficult for us and that, precisely, is the main attraction of this series of "aluminium paintings" by Urs Fischer (Switzerland, 1973). In reality, they are not strictly paintings, but a collage that the artist finally resolves in a printed image.
Flambé, by Urs Fischer (2024)
Materials: aluminium panel, based-screen printing paint / Measures: 245.9 x 183.8
This amazing superimposition technique, well known to advertisers, is used to "hook" readers or passersby with an advertisement. It turned out to be very successful for Fischer, as most of the artworks on display at Easy Solutions & Problems had already been sold. In addition to this semi-covered Elizabeth Taylor, other Hollywood stars from the 1950s and 1960s, such as Grace Kelly and Gene Tierney, were also part of the same exhibition, in which the artist used the same technique but with different flowers.
