Useless objects...
12:14 p.m.Skittles, by Hugh Hayden (2024)
Installation with 7 power coated aluminium skillets and hanging rail / Measures: 71.1 x 147.3 x 33 cm
03/19/25 - Hugh Hayden (USA, 1983) practices the anthropomorphization of everyday objects, transforming familiar elements into ones that affect our perception.
In Skittles, he worked with pots and pans, modifying their bases into faces similar to those of African masks, quite like those Picasso recreated in Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. The pots hang together in different colors as if ready to be used in the kitchen. Upon first encountering this object or objects, we are first impressed by its humor, but upon closer inspection, it strikes us as almost tragic.
The piece was presented at the recent Art Basel in Miami Beach at Lisson Gallery.
