Presences...
1:20 p.m.Exploring uncertainty and intimacy, Norma Sivolboim (Argentina, 1960), exhibits a work from her Presencias series at the Sívori Museum in Buenos Aires. It is titled Estrella de Luz (Star of Light) and is made up of countless transparent, red and yellow acrylic squares, placed in vertical rows, a repetition in three dimensions and in four directions.

At first glance the sculpture is a chain of linked forms, but something more is required on our part: a detailed observation, which might go unnoticed by unsuspecting visitors. Precision in our gaze is then demanded of us because suddenly another eye appears in front of our eye, which observes us intimately from inside the piece.

If the sculpture from afar represents a minimal story, due to the repetition of the same geometric shapes, the eye (actually the eyes, because there are several) impresses something else, which is not indifferent to the observer: one is being observed. This effect adds a certain surrealist restlessness to the work, because within those infinite little boards or squares there is a “presence”. This is how the title of the artwork acquires its true meaning.
