Parque del Retiro...

05/15/23 - Crystal is my skin is the title of the installation by two artists who live in Berlin: Pauline Boudry (Switzerland, 1972) and Renata Lorenz (Germany, 1963)

Before describing the work and how it impresses the public, we must not forget that each exhibition that the Reina Sofia Museum presents at the Palacio de Cristal in the Parque del Retiro in Madrid is worthy of admiration. Icertainly is not easy for the artists to set up a site-specific in a building with glass walls and irregular floor space, while allowing viewers to circulate with the necessary freedom to immerse themselves in the works.

On this occasion, once again, the curatorship achieves an atmosphere as particular as it is extraordinary. It is an installation with sound, smoke and mirrored platforms in strange positions that are intended to recreate the atmosphere of queer clubs. The structure of the palace is reflected in these surfaces, becoming an interpreter, but it also disappears when these same. platforms exhale smoke: thus, the transparency of the place becomes opaque.

Smoke is the aesthetic tool that questions the visuality of the palace, but at the same time, it emulates the density of the queer clubs and it is right there where all the bodies become one while they dance.
