Museo Kistefos (Part V): The Restrooms...
4:36 p.m.15/09/22 - Kistefos Museum offers one surprise after another, even the restrooms at The Twist become an absurd and surreal experience that we cannot ignore. As soon as we descend the stairs of the gallery, we are spied by the second sculpture by Elmgreen & Dragset, who already welcomed us at the entrance.
But the main surprise comes when you enter the cubicles themselves, where mouths are displayed vertically. The video installation is a work by Tony Oursler (New York, 1957) who managed, through a kaleidoscopic technique, to tape the lips of the actors participating in this performance. The position of the mouths is unusual and at first we do not recognize that they are in fact lips until we see the teeth.
Irony and humor are mixed to criticize, with this reductionist image, the media, explains Oursler. But, at the same time, we must recognize that, through this technological magic, our mind tries to discover as quickly as possible what we are seeing in these whispering and psychedelic forms that approach us in such an intimate space.
