A competition according to Jonathan Paul...

01/02/19 - Some months ago the Unix Gallery in New York presented a very interesting exhibition by Jonathan Paul (USA 1975). Two goats "compete" for some strawberries, but first must overcome certain obstacles. The visitors are asked to choose one of the goats and cheer for it to reach the aim as fast as possible. Each animal has a uniform in a different color and the gallery area is complemented with different installations and objects.

The goats had to climb a steep surface to reach the reward. When the first one got to the strawberries, a piñata exploded with thousand petals to celebrate the victory. The audience cheering for that particular goat clapped energetically. After the competition, both goats were removed from the gallery and everything was caught on tape.

It is rooted in human nature to choose one or other team, political party, religion, etc. Based on this, Paul chose an animal which, he believes, is similar to us in its vivacity, impulsiveness and unpredictability. Then he presents an abstract representation of a competition, exposing us to our on weaknesses and exaltations.
