05/13/16 - May is the month in which the most important
auction houses in the world make their clients struggle for the Picassos
and Monets. It's that time of the year in which the Impressionist and Modern
Art catalogues inspire collectors around the planet and record sales are set.
But even if you don't have the U$S 66.3 millions made last year by Van
Gogh's "L’Allés des Alyscamps", these events are
incredible inspiring and not only to art connoisseurs. In fact, the
editors of a renown fashion magazine placed their trained eyes on Sotheby's
catalogue and found that many of the artworks on sale had similarities with
what could be seen in the Fall collections. For example,
"Chanteuse", by Pablo Picasso (1901), became a vaporous pastel
gown by Gucci.

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec captured dancer Jane Avril in puff
sleeves, not very different from those presented recently by Prada.

Of course, a Roskanda dress is a bargain compared with the
U$S 9 million reached by Claude Monet.
"Camille à l'Ombrelle verte", by Claude Monet

Edouard Vuillard, Edgar Degas, Marie Laurencin and Eugéne
Boudin were also caught by the eyes of the editors and compared to runway
matches.

"Danseuse assise", by Edgar Degas (circa
1897-1900) / Molly Goddard - Fall 2016
"Deux jeune femmes au chien en fôret", by Marie
Laurencin (circa 1925-26) / Simone Rocha - Fall 2016
"Crinolines à la plage de Trouville", by Engène
Boudin / Delpozo - Fall 2016
The auction took place on May 9th and the final result was
U$S 144.5 million. Auguste Rodin's exquisite marble, "L’Éterne
printemps", reached U$S 20.4 million: a new record for the
sculptor.
