La Menesunda...

02/11/15 - In 1965, Marta Minujín, with Rubén Santantonín, made La Menesunda, a fabulous installation that took spectators out of their confort zone to force them to interact with the artwork. In that time, the installation was a complete breaking point in the Art scene. Twenty years later, the artist recretated the artwork, in a smaller scale, and called it La Minujinda. However, the general response wasn't very successful...
Today the one-and-only Menesunda is once again available at the MAMBA with all its splendour, but with a completely different feel. It's a show, a revival of things that in the 60s were groundbreaking, rather extreme but, today, they are ordinary: television sets, neon lights, even breaking into the intimacy of a couple in bed are not that provoking.  Neither are we surprised by the Miss Ylang ladies trying to apply makeup on us or give us a massage. It's fun, it's hilarious but not revolutionary as in the 60s.

The installation has a labyrinthine structure with eleven different situations, which cause claustrophobia, vertigo, strange movements, etc. It's a long tour through narrow corridors, although the scents of the original Menesunda can't be clearly perceived.

La Menesunda is a participative artwork which demands the engagement of visitors. If one lets go, the fun is guaranteed. It is, in fact, a celebration of the 60s, a glorious time in Argentine Art.
