Jeff Koons and Olaf Breuning take New York...

Two great artists, Jeff Koons & Olaf Breuning, display their works in two emblematic sites of New York city, the Rockefeller Center & the Central Park. First we have Split-Rocker: a spectacular 11-mts-high structure covered by 50.000 flower plants, signé Jeff Koons (USA, 1955).

True to his long-lasting fascination with dichotomy, Koons combines here two of his children's toys: the head of a dinosaur with the head of a pony. Thus he achieves a rather Cubist result, which, in this case, is also a living and dynamic structure, because its plants grow naturally and, of course, change the contour of the sculpture.

Close by and among the trees of the Central Park, Olaf Breuning's Clouds rise 10-mts above the ground. It's a rudimentary stainless-steel installation which hold six deep-blue clouds. Each of them were cut according to a hand-drawing by the artist, but we instantly associate them to the clouds usually made by small children. They certainly look quite different to those skies made by Academic artists of the first years of the 20th century, where imitating reality was the main goal.

Breuning's works usually border the daily mixed with the surreal. In this case, he was able to transform the usual sight of the park with a colourful and fun landscape that interacts with the trees and the architecture of the city.
