On The Rocks...

13/09/24 - The collective made up of Sun Yuan and Peng Yu never ceases to surprise and in Paris you can enjoy it with two exhibitions simultaneously: at the Bourse de Commerce, where part of the Pinault Collection is on display, and at the Continua Gallery. In this last space, along with other artists, they are part of the exhibition On The Rocks and nothing more fitting to the title than presenting Teenager Teenager, an installation in which they reflect on the human condition. Outside of all conventionalism, the artwork consists of a series of hyperrealistic sculptures of people whose heads were replaced by enormous stones. In this way communication with them and us, the visitors, is cancelled since we cannot identify their gestures or glances. At first the figures seem funny to us, although after a few minutes a sensation of abyss that borders on the sinister invades us. Certainly the artists want to move us by approaching a fact typical of our society: the lack of communication.
