Boticelli at Frieze Masters...

12:00 a.m.

17/10/19 - If Frieze London is the largest exhibition of Contemporary Artists, Frieze Masters is a walk through the history of the arts, from early Egyptian art to the 20th century. It’s a tour around those artworks that have been studied and re-interpreted infinitely and taken also as connections to Contemporary Art.
This time, the star of the fair was a portrait, on display solo at the Trinity Fine Art gallery. The painting, guarded in a room protected by the gallery owner and two security guards, shows us Michael Marullus Tarchaniota (the subject) looking sideways to all of us who waited for half an hour to meet him (He was a soldier, poet and humanist of the Quattrocento).
What makes this painting so extraordinary? That it is a true jewel of Renaissance portrait painting, with traces of Boticelli’s undeniable skill and, thus, the last of his works to remain in private hands.
Sandro Botticelli (Italy, 1445-1510) awaits a new owner, the current ones are open to offers.
Portrait of Michael Marullus Tarchaniota, by Sandro Botticelli
