Brick over brick...

08/08/19 - Jean-Michel Othoniel decided to build with glass bricks, one on top of the other, enigmatic sculptures that perfectly adapt themselves to the labyrinthine architecture of the Perrotin Gallery in Paris.. The exhibition its called "Oracles" and the visit ends in an altar where we could theoretically consult the Gods.

L’Autel ou le Parloir, by Jean-Michel Othoniel (2019)
Material: yellow glass bricks / Measures: 127 x 212 x 30 cm
The glass bricks have different colors: blue, amber and green and we can never tell whether we are seeing an architecture or a sculpture. Some pieces are monumental, taking up almost all the space of the rooms.

Othoniel found in his bricks a universal element, a common denominator among cultures all over the history of mankind. All the artworks have the bricks as link, which adapt to such unconventional space, and allows us, as visitors, to relate to them in a different way. It is not only a building element, but a geometric piece that obsessively repeats itself over and over again to create a crane, a road or a wall in an uncommon place.
