Kistefos Museum (Part III): Do Ho Suh...
7:17 p.m.09/06/22 - We continue discovering this space founded in 1996 by collector Christen Sveaas, grandson of the owner of what once was a paper mill on the Randselva River. Today we visit the second gallery, the Nybruket Gallery, which is currently displaying Homes, by the Korean artist Do Ho Suh (Seoul, 1962).
Wielandstr. 18, 12159 Berlin, Germany – 3 Corridors, by Do Ho Suh (2011)
Polyester fabric and stainless steel armature.
Do Ho Suh meticulously replicates the architecture of the spaces he inhabited or worked in, such as his childhood home or the apartments he occupied in London and New York. Using a translucent canvas, he produces large-scale installations in which he examines the limits of individuality or connectivity in this globalized world. The loss of anonymity (transparency) in favor of the group is a reflection of the militarized society in which he grew up due to the constant threat of its neighbor from the North. Once he moved to the West, the idea of uprooting still floats in his head and, despite the fact that he continues to represent transparent houses, as viewers we see that these creations overflow with nostalgia, loneliness and the notion of not belonging.
