Unusual situation...

The Thaddaeus Ropac Gallery in London is located at 37 Dover Street, but even though we have all the coordinates, the entrance is very difficult to find. Not because it has a small door or because the name of the gallery is not showing, but because it is precisely at the top of a majestic entrance that does not appear to be what it really is.
Going around the staircase and passing through a large entrance hall, we arrive at the interior galleries where the exhibition by Ron Mueck (Australia, 1968) 25 years of Sculpture 1996-2021 is being displayed. We had the opportunity to see some of these sculptures in other galleries and museums, but this show is no less surprising. And not only because of its extraordinary craftmanship but because of Mueck's genius in imposing on each sculpture a size that is inconsistent with what is being represented: a 1 mt-high chicken ready to cook, a gigantic couple on the beach etc. Therefore, despite the surprising realism of his sculptures, they are always larger or smaller than the real object.

25 años de Escultura 1996-2021, Ron Mueck
Thaddaeus Ropac Gallery, London

With Woman with Shopping, Mueck confronts us with a visibly exhausted woman, busy with her household responsibilities. The newborn on her chest looks at her with half-closed eyes, but she is lost in her own thoughts. The artist offers us an honest representation of what motherhood is nowadays, by representing the physical and emotional exhaustion in a sculpture.
The same happens with all of Mueck's works, in which, through their meticulous detail, we understand the feelings that each of them harbors. Impossible to classify them as simple objects.
