Les Deux Garçons: an intrepid group...

12/16/21 - Michel Vanderheijden van Tinteren (1965) and Roel Moonen (1966) met while studying at the Academy of Visual Arts in Maastricht and in 2000 they decided to work together under the name Atelier Les Deux Garçons.
Their productions are mostly taxidermist sculptures, where they assemble pieces in a free-style mode (there's no other way to explain what they do). The result is an absurd, almost theatrical object made up of sheep, deer, birds and other small animals. Certainly a morbid humor emerges from the sculptures but, as always, there are various points of view: their works lead us to reflect on the future of science and genetic manipulations. However, the choice of titles for their exhibitions, such as “L'adieu impossible”, “La Fragilité” and “L'Ephémère tangible”, introduce us to that nostalgic world as when we cannot say goodbye to our beloved pet and we decide to immortalize it by embalming it (a very common practice in past centuries) or when we are simply presented with how delicate and fragile the existence of every living being is.
