Essential Art...

20/11/20 - During this long lockdown, the art exhibitions went completely online and contemporary artists weren’t able to attend their own openings nor take part in the montage of the artworks in the museums or galleries. However, Pedro Roth (Hungary, 1938) decided to present his artworks at a venue that always remained opened throughout the social isolation period: the supermarket Sol Oriente Express, in Palermo, Buenos Aires. It’s such an innovative idea that the exhibition became an instant success, not only because of where it was being held but because of the need for art of all of us. Thus, between packs of cookies and sodas, the artworks emerge from the aisles to the ceiling.

Although the exhibition is an untidy retrospective of Pedro Roth’s career, there are also a series of photographs by his son Damián, who was the one that came up with the idea for his exhibition.

There’s also a sculpture on display, named “Maldito Niño”, which is a piece made in polyester resin fron a previous piece in marble, with a mysterious past story.

It’s a very good idea to take a trolley and walk around this explosion of color deriving from the artworks, many of which are dedicated to Jewish life. While we look for something to eat, we dive into Pedro Roth’s magical and playful world, feeling that life can still be wonderful.
