10/29/18 - ArtBo was held this past weekend in Bogotá and in spite of the many international galleries taking part, most of the selling artworks belonged to Latin American artists, specially Colombian. One of them was Sebastián Dávila (Bogotá 1981), who produces useless architectonic spaces with found objects in the garbage.
Another example is Aurora Lario (1967), who was born in Spain, but lives and works in Bogotá. Her works present the human body in an allegorical and religious way. She uses materials like crystal and porcelain because they express the frailty and delicacy of the hands presenting an offering of devotion to the sacred.
The Spanish gallery Max Estrella showcased another Colombian artist, Miler Lagos (1973), who makes pieces in resin with paper and also sculptures using that same material.
But the best montage was that of the Argentine Gallery Rolf which exhibited a video of the performance by Argentine artist Silvia Rivas on a 10-mts-high scaffolding. The spectacularity of the projection was commented at large. The piece was acquired by a private collector.
The curatorship helped many unknown Colombian artist to reach the Art market. As in almost all Art fairs, abstract and geometric artists are a constant presence. There was not much to see in video installations or performances. With 70 galleries from 20 different countries, ArtBo demanded concentration and long walks.
