09/26/16 - White Cube, the art gallery in London, presented a group of young Chinese artists who work with Abstraction: Liu Wentao, Jiang Zhi y Yu Youhan.
In Liu Wentao's case, his paintings are done with graphite pencil, used in layers, which results in a compact surface in different shades of gray. The artist seeks inspiration in religious subjects and in Minimalism. Agnes Martin and Ellsworth Kelly are Liu's main artistic models, and they both represented the Minimal movement, which was born during the final years of the 20th Century. It became so popular that it took over other areas, such as fashion, home styling and it's still very much alive.

This year's Singapore Biennial summoned artist Ryan Villamael (Philippines, 1987) to create a site-specific installation. The artwork is entitled "Greenhouse" and it will be done with paper cutouts from old maps of the Philippines. It was the artist himself who took the task of collecting each map and cutting it, to create a new one. Till it's unveiled, Villamael exhibits his cutouts to curious visitors who closely study his ability to work with paper. The woman in the photo below is so impressed with Villamael's shapes that she carries them in her blouse.
