Julio Le Parc's Esfera Azul...
2:33 p.m.
08/04/16 - A gigantic balloon-like mobile hangs from the ceiling at the entrance to the grand floor of the CCK. It's made of hundreds of blue acrylic plaques that move with the air, randomly reflecting the light. This enormous blue ball was created and donated by artist Julio Le Parc (Argentina, 1928) to Argentina's Cultural Heritage. Le Parc's generosity, together with the Government's promise to look after it, have allowed these 3 thousands little blue acrylic squares to find a permanent home.

Materials: acrylic, fishing line and metal / Measures: 450 x 450 x 450 cm
This artwork has a counterpart in red: it's in Switzerland and was valued in 50 thousand euros approximately. Each square is tied with a thin nylon thread, which allows it to shift positions and turn independently from the others. According to the air in the room, it can move faster or slower, thus changing the angle of reflection of the light and causing several different sparkles.

The assembly of the mobile was done entirely on the floor and then elevated to its permanent location with a manual winch. Le Parc wants visitors to visually reset the image, since proximity and circulation affect this marvellous example of kinetic art.
