28/07/16 - On July 1st, 2006 a group of people gathered at Beloit, Wisconsin, by the banks of Rock river, to recreate the panting "A Sunday afternoon on the island of La Grande Jatte" by Georges Seurat (France, 1859-1891). The call asked for volunteers wearing ordinary casual clothes, because it was going to be a modern version of the artwork. People were asked to attend using red, brown or black t-shirt and, if possible, bring their dogs too. Sailors would bring their boats also. The result was a very gracious and similar take on the painting.
"Un dimanche après-midi àl'Ile de la Grande Jatte" is Georges Seurat most renown work and he started it in 1884 using his scientific technique, later known as pointillism, quite different form the intuitive ways of Impressionists. Although he wanted to portray modern life, like Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir did, this true intention was to capture light variations on nature: a precise and particular moment, as in a photo.
