Art Gallery in Punta del Este...

11/01/16 - As we already posted a few days ago, 2015 was the year of the museum-ination of Art galleries. Outside of museums, it is not easy to generate a curatorial script and choose works that translate the story we wish to tell. However, with no script at all and artists chosen randomly, the Galería Guerra in Manantiales, Punta del Este, is currently exhibiting a very particular series of works, quite different from the ones we traditionally find in this type of spaces. The works on display range from Sol Lewitt to León Ferrari, incluiding also Antonio Seguí  and some of García Torres' apprentices.
In addition to the masters, an emerging Uruguayan artist, Javier Abdala, presents portraits of famous artistic people, done with scraps of wood and metal. Even if they look like paintings, they are in fact base-less sculptures that, from afar, represent the subject but, upclose, they look like a mixture of different assembled elements.
