What to do this weekend?
12:14 p.m.Spring is near and you can almost feel it in the air... Days are nicer and last longer... Here, some suggestions for this Saturday and Sunday:
1. A walk in the park...
A Sunday on la Grande Jatte, by Georges Seurat (1884-1886)
Technique: oil on canvas / Measures: 207.5 x 308.1 cm
Technique: oil on canvas / Measures: 207.5 x 308.1 cm
On this well-known work by Seurat (Paris 1859- 1891) the notion of space is flat and all the figures are located in horizontal and vertical positions. The people, together with their shadows, form right angles and look like geometrical puppets, as if they were the pieces on a chess board. Everything has been calculated mathematically, because Seurat wanted to represent the techno-scientific mentality of the modern man: in spite of the lovely day, people look robotized.
2. Watch a movie...
In case it should rain, all the works of the Museo del Prado, together in just a few minutes...
3. Bask in the sun on the terrace...
La Terraza, by Pablo Suárez (1983)
Technique: acrylic on canvas / Measures: 235.5 x 177.5 cm - MNBA
Pablo Suárez (Buenos Aires, 1937-2006) lived in the neighborhood of Mataderos when he painted La Terraza. It's a realistic work, but with an expressionist view: it reflects the reality, but adding grotesque detailing to his characters.
