Staging an exhibition: Collivadino, Buenos Aires under construction...

10:38 a.m.

Organising a temporary exhibition at the MNBA requires the team-work of many people. Let's see the whole process, taking as example Pío Collivadino's exhibition, which opened on July 23rd...
First of all, it's necessary to adapt the lighting of the room according to the works on display...
Then, with the presence of the curator, the location of the masterpieces is decided, bearing in mind the "story" to be told. In this case, this decision was taken by curator Dr. Laura Malosetti Costa.
Finally, prior to the hanging of the paintings, they are placed on the floor to check their correct location.
Bigger paintings, or those of mayor visual impact, receive privileged placement.
And now... a final check-up before opening-day...
Let's take a look around the exhibition...
The aim is to show visitors how Buenos Aires looked in the beginning of the 20th century, specially to those who had the luck of inhabiting the city during the 30s, 40s and 50s, when not so many cars circulated around... These paintings are like photos of that precise moment in our history, just before industries left the city to more far-away locations. Eternal Buenos Aires, as Borges would say... Pío Collivadino left us this legacy that's worth a closer look.
