Animals in art...

Animal Day is near. Let's see some artworks that have them in leading roles...
The She-Wolf, by Jackson Pollock (1943)
Technique: oil, gouache and cast on canvas / Measures: 106.4 x 170.2 cm
MoMA - New York
By the beginning of the 40s, Pollock was quite influenced by mythology. The wolf in the painting above might refer to the one in Romulo and Remo's legend. According to Pollock, "She-Wolf was created because I had to paint her". And, in a typical attitude of his generation, the artist then said that "his need to explain the inexplicable would later destroy it".
This was the first painting by Pollock that the MoMA bought in 1944.
Urano en casa IV, by Jorge de la Vega (1963)
Technique: oil and collage on canvas / Measures: 85 x 60 cm
Jorge de la Vega took and elephant, a fantastic creature in the mind of a child, and depicted it as a painting, including pieces of fabric. He then added objects, such as mirrors, buttons, glass and transformed him into a fantasy animal.
