A young girl rehearses a classic dance routine while her mother rests for an instant from her work at the sewing machine. The scene continues through the opened door, through which we can see a typical landscape from the suburbs.

This painting from 1936 belongs to Berni's early stages and shows a domestic moment. We are witnesses of the bond between mother and daughter. In its realism, the artist depicts the social desires of that time: middle-class workers made their children study in the Conservatory (dance, piano music), hoping they would be better off than their parents. To do so, women would help in the family economy by doing sewing work.
