Golden bonsai...

11/11/21 - Using 3D technology, Marc Quinn explores, paradoxically, the interference of man in Nature. According to the artist, we do not let the natural world that surrounds us speak to us in its crude and mystical way, but rather we provoke it, with the changes that we impose on it with our hands and our mind.

Held by Desire is a bronze sculpture representing the bonsai of a juniper tree and was created with a three-dimensional scanner. According to the artist, it is the image of the collapse but also of the permanence in time of the natural object, now transformed into something new, reflecting the intervention of the hand of man with its artificial brilliance.

Historically, bonsai were used to focus the attention of a person. These trees are achieved through various gardening and pruning techniques so that, from the original species, a miniature version is obtained. Quinn bases his sculpture on a bonsai that belongs to him but that he is allowing to grow at will to return to its original state and size.
