Bansky at Venice...

25/07/19 - As Art pilgrims, we are always dreaming of bumping into the most famous graffiti artist in the world: Banksy. No one has seen him and his artworks are usually discovered when the sun rises in places of artistic or political effervescence. This is why everyone knew he would be in Venice during the Biennial. First he appeared with a stall, selling small paintings at Piazza San Marco, reporting against environmental contamination. Some days later, he painted a graffiti in one of the walls of an abandoned house. And we all went on the treasure hunt, since its exact location wasn't clear: at Dorsoduro, beyond Vigo bridge at San Pantaleon.Piazza. Quite an odyssey since the house was outside the touristic area.
The mural can only be seen properly from the water. The house is currently on sale. The image shows a boy with a life vest and a lighted flare, in a clear reference to migrants and refugees.
For the visitors of the Biennale, this is another show among the many offered during those days. For each and everyone of us, this is a new wake-up call on the reality that still shakes us: that of refugee children.
