-This is not Art-

11/01/18 - Modern Art has its very original language in which the own existence of the artist was sustenance enough for the artwork. Their writings, signature, gesture or even in some cases, blood and other body fluids were present in canvases or objects. This group of artists decided to question tradition and act unorthodoxly. Their art of disobedience required new strategies in the creative process and the intake of ordinary and banal objects was one of them.
The MAMBO (Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá) presented an exhibition of Modern Art pieces of the 50s and 70s called "This is not art". Among those innovative artists, we want to highlight Alicia Barney, a Colombian artist who in 1979 produced the work "Bocagrande". The piece, an absolute innovation for the time, consists of shells and waste found in the beach and grouped with a certain order. Completely out of Academic standards, Barney blended art with Nature in such a way that the art critics of the time had to wonder:  Is this art?
