Gustave Moreau Museum, Paris
21/09/18 - The maison-atelier that houses the collection of Symbolic French artist Gustave Moreau is kept just like it used to be in the time the artist lived there. To transport visitors to the atmosphere of the 19th century, the original display was observed and this is enhanced by the stairs leading to the artist's atelier.
More than a thousand paintings and five thousands drawings reveal Moreau's creative force, which was opposed to Impressionism's visuality, creating a more spiritual work, not so scientific.

Symbolism, a symbolic approach to Classic Art, uses signs to portray a reality beyond human conscience, almost like a mysterious osmosis between what's inside the artist's mind and his vision  of what surrounds him. The artworks display these symbols that can be difficult to understand by those who do not share the same code.

Gustave Moreau did not depict reality. His artworks are an instrument to investigate the human mind by the fantasy images that revealed his subconscious. With his creations he opened the doors to the Surrealist movement in the 20th century.
