Artist Richard Serra (USA, 1939) has us used to his gigantic sculptures of big iron blocks, as the one permanently on display at Bilbao's Museo Guggenheim, in Spain. But, since 1971, he has also been painting: mainly works with dense fills on paper, as if they were roads with no beginning nor end.  In these abstract paintings, Serra only uses the color black and, as it absorbs and reduces the light, the result gives a sensation of mass and weight.

The exhibition, on David Zwirner's Gallery in New York, displays the most recent works by Serra under the title "Vertical and Horizontal Reversal". They were made on paper, vertically and horizontally, creating a symmetry which stimulates the perception of visitors.

You can definitely see in them the traces of the artist's hand, as in paintings by Jackson Pollock and Jean Fautrier.
