Julio Le Parc - Lumière...

1:02 p.m.

The MALBA Museum has just opened a new exhibition with seventeen works by Julio Le Parc, belonging to the Daros Latinoamericana collection. Le Parc, born in Mendoza in 1928, is an avant-garde artist of the 20th century whose works marked a breakdown in a moment in which art was defined by static observation.
As a welcome to visitors, a big yellow ball (“the great Argentine sun”) floats over the entrance hall.  According to the MALBA, it was specially commissioned for this exhibition.

Installation in yellow acrylic
In the rooms of the second floor, the light-kinetic constructions are exhibited in total darkness, in an impeccable montage, after a very important restoration process, coordinated by curator Hans-Michael Herzog. Most pieces date from the 60s and represent the artist's concerns regarding the changes in light.

As a group of medusas moving deep in the bottom of the ocean, the installation on the entire wall of the first room allows us to see the alterations suffered by light in movement.

Materials: wood, mesh curtain, motor and light source / Measures: changeable measures.
Tip: Take some time to adjust to darkness as you enter the rooms for a better enjoyment of the entire experience.
The MNBA is lucky to have two works by Julio Le Parc in its collection. One of them was done around the same time as those on exhibition at the MALBA. Here, the participation of the visitor is key, since the light stimulation generates surprise through the manipulation of certain objects.
